Previously our GAs participated in buckets of hope for Haiti disaster relief. Is there anything similar being organized for Louisiana disaster relief? Or can you share ideas for
projects your girls are doing to help in the Gulf? Thanks Stephens

Great question! We have checked with the North American Mission Board and several state Baptist disaster relief coordinators. They do not have specific projects planned at this time.
But these groups do encourage leaders to watch to see what opportunities arise. Local churches in the Gulf Coast area may also begin to plan projects to help out.
We'd love to know what other GA groups are doing! Edited by melody - 24 Jun 2010 at 9:52am |

Local area churches at least in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach AL are overwhelmed with people who are going hungry right now. This includes people from the Northeastern part of the the U.S. who came down looking for work and finding none when they got here. Lots and lots of prayer is needed. We can't keep our pantries full fast enough! God Bless for all the prayers and whatever you felt led to do!

Its funny(ironic not ha ha) I live not 20 miles from Gulf Shores and I was not even aware of the "problems" those local churches are facing with hungry people.
What are ways others can help those churches? |

I wish that I could give you a more clear answer. We (at least in my church and we have heard other churches on "the island" are going through this too) have had to restock our frozen pantry supply at least 3 times and also we donate lots of travel size cleaning items. This way they can at least take care of their immediate needs while working on their other needs as well. There are also the food pantries in other churches as well.

Also, this may seem ghastly to some, but air masks (the white ones people wear when cleaning) might come in handy for those who work close to or on the beach.

We have just received word that the Louisiana Baptist Convention is collecting Buckets of Hope for those affected by the oil spill. You can find more information here: http://www.lbc.org/DisasterRelief/Default.aspx?id=2147484258.
Thank you for your concern for people on the Gulf Coast!
