On Saturday, February 20, 2010, at West Hampton Baptist Church, Hampton, VA, more than 60 children, teenagers, and adults learned about the needs in our community of those who are homeless and hungry by participating in our third annual Children’s Ministry Day. (Because our weather this winter has been cold with snow on the three previous weekends, we tweaked some of the suggestions given so we could work indoors.) We sang songs, viewed a video of our Angel Food ministry, observed a drama concerning our feelings about the homeless, listened and asked questions of representatives of the Peninsula Rescue Mission and the Salvation Army, and toured the Salvation Army Soup Van.
5th graders built 12 birdhouses. 3rd & 4th graders packed 65 warmth & hygiene kits for the homeless. 1st & 2nd graders filled 25 grocery bags with food to be given to families in emergencies by the Peninsula Rescue Mission. Preschoolers made 45 pinecone bird feeders. (Yes, birds can also be hungry and homeless!)
We ate soup from the Salvation Army Soup Van with peanut butter & jelly sandwiches made by volunteers. The Thursday Lunch Ministry provided the fixings for the soup and volunteers with the Salvation Army fixed and served it. All the supplies we used were donated by those who care about our community. Everyone who participated received a blessing. Our only request is that next year more will be able to be part of Children’s Ministry Day. |

On Sunday, February 28, 2010, at
Grace Baptist Church, Williamsburg, VA, 11 children, and 7 adults prepared and served a meal to over 30 senior adults. The banquet was a great way to thank our biggest supporters and provide a learning experience for the children in what being a servant of the Lord really meant.
We started with our Children's Department "FISH" walk on February 21 when the children donated 12 grocery bags of various baby food items. During the "FISH" walk, we talked about those who are homeless and hungry by participating in our third annual Children’s Ministry Day. Everyone who participated received a blessing. Although we are small in number, we made up for it with heart. |

The Children In Action group of Northwest Baptist Church in Chesapeake, Virginia participated in Children's Ministry Day on February 20th by visiting with the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Norfolk, Virginia. There were a total of 6 children and 3 adults that helped with this project. Prior to visiting the home, our children helped create “Fun Page Activity Booklets.” These booklets were for the children who were patients in the Children's Hospital of the Kings Daughter and Sentara Norfolk and for the children who were staying at the Ronald McDonald House with their parents. While at the home, our children helped prepare and serve lunch to the residents; like barbeque, cold slaw, Chick-fil-A combo meals and chocolate éclair dessert. We all gathered in the dining area where we had a wonderful time of fellowship with the families and we heard prayer requests from the families. Through this ministry, we were able to teach our children how they could show Gods love to others and how they could do something as simple as having a prayer with the families, listening, hearing their concerns, smiling at them or giving them a "Big hug". Our group received many blessings because they learned that even the smallest "Gifts from Heaven" (a baby) needs God wonderful love and touch in order to thrive in their lives. ![]() Edited by NorthwestBaptist - 09 Mar 2010 at 5:31pm |

The Kedron Baptist Church GAs of Gladys, Va.
They had a fundraiser for the Campbell County Habitat for Humanity for Children's Ministry Day. They had a Soup & Sandwich Dinner. They had a great time planning the event and being waitresses for the night. They even made a house to advertise their dinner. They raised $606.00 for Habitat for Humanity.
