National Collection Week is only a couple of weeks away (November 16 -23). How are you incorporating Operation Christmas Child into your hands-on missions and outreach plans?

Hello!  I just wanted to say something from the OTHER side of OCC.  I am an imb mis. serving in Africa and we did a distribution in our area this past Spring.  We'll do another one this coming March.  It has been an excellent opportunity to share a G. witness with not only the children, but with adults, as well.  In every location where we distributed, before handing out the boxes, we did a presentation.  It has opened many doors!  We have two Kids' Clubs going each week, where we are able to share Bib. stories and the kids are memorizing Scrip.  On another front, it helps needy families.  We know many that saved back the school supplies they received in the Spring for the new '09-'10 school year.  One parent told me, "It saved us quite a bit.  All we had to pay for was books!"  Keep up the good work!  There are two ch's from my home state (IL) coming to help us with the distribution this next Spring.  If you're interested in joining them, send me a message and I'll get you in touch with them!

Thanks for sharing! It is so neat to hear personal stories. I have our two boxes almost packed for 2-4 yro boys. That is near the age of my boys. I just need to pick up some socks, underwear, and a tiny stuff animal.
The deadlines are in the next couple of weeks. Also, now you can register online to have your boxes tracked. So cool.
Thanks Samaritains Purse for making a difference in so many lives and for opening doors for children to learn about Jesus.

So great to hear where shoe box gifts are opening doors with children and their families! My family is having our annual shoe box Packing Party this weekend and we always include school supplies as well, as we have heard so many stories surrounding those. Even times when children were not able to attend school because they didn't have the necessary supplies. Of course, the primary role of the gifts is to support local believers and churches to share the Good News and to have ongoing contact and follow up, but it's so great to know simple gifts are also meeting needs. And yes, we are definitely using EZ Give from the Samaritan's Purse site so our boy-girl labels can be scanned in the inspection and shipping process and we can see where our gifts are going. What a great opportunity to pray and to engage our kids to pray for the country(ies)!

I was at the Atlanta distribution site helping with boxes when i saw a great idea.  Old pill bottles used for sewing kits and I thought what a great idea for each box.  But there must be other small things that can be put in those pill bottles.  Any ideas????

Hi
Our Sunday School class will be doing that in a few weeks I believe . We will also be volunteering at one of the processing plants in December. Such a good organization!
Thanks!

Your post reminded me that Operation Christmas Child is a part of LifeWay Resources "Saddle Ridge Ranch" VBS curriculum this year!! So great to have OCC to support the missions component, giving kids a chance to bring in items and pack boxes to share Christ with other children around the world! I've heard lots of folks say this will be an enhancement to what the church's participation in the fall during the more 'usual' OCC time. VBS time will be great reminder that the 'back to school' sales are coming :)

please use pretty material for lining your plastic shoe boxes so that they will be able to wear it later.  Also add mess bags 3 for $1.oo at Dollar General so they can carry things later.
