Smile  If your WOM or WMU has hosted a Worldcrafts Party for your church please share your tips and ideas.  Those of us that have not yet hosted one would love to hear from those who have.  There is a great article in this months Mosaic, and we are wanting to host one, but are not sure we can pull it off before Christmas, but think that it would be a good time to have one.  Any tips and ideas would be greatly appreciated.

We have had an annual Worldcrafts party for a number of years and typically sell around $1000 worth of merchandise.  Here's what we've learned.

Very early fall is a good time for a party.   People are likely to buy items as Christmas gifts, and ordering early helps to ensure that the items are in stock.

Download the information from the web site (www.worldcraftsvillage.com).  There are excellent helps, including the recipes.  The

At our church, each WOM member prepares two dishes, so we have a nice variety of foods from different countries.  We have our party on Sunday night after worship service.  We've tried other times, but we have best attendance at this time.  We publicize it in the bulletin and have a pulpit announcement.  We give a couple of small items as door prizes.  Our members have a number of items we've purchased over the years, and we put these on display.  The sample set for $99 also seems like a good way to start if you don't already own enough items to make a display.  There are items in various price ranges, and those could be offered for sale on the spot.

We love our worldcrafts party!

We've done WorldCrafts at my church too. Here are a few things I did:
1. If you are having some of the actual crafts there at the event, then try and make tent cards telling the country where the craft originates from.
2. Make some of the recipes. If you can't do a meal then choose some of the desserts. Make tent cards for those too so that the folks know the names of the desserts and where they come from.
3. I agree with Edna, start early. Things do go out of stock.
4. Get others to help you.
5. Turn it into a learning time--use the DVD that WorldCrafts does so that folks can see and hear the difference their shopping can make.
6. Infusion WorldCrafts into a women's meeting that is already planned.

Women love this sort of thing. I was also amazed at how take the children were with the small nativity sets. They would hold the small pieces in their hands almost in awe. Many of those sets went home with the families. Be creative and have fun!

Check out some of the articles on www.myMISSIONfulfilled.com which feature artisans who are helped by WorldCrafts.

At the party, share several stories about how WorldCrafts specifically helps the artisans both physically and spiritually.

Here are a few good articles:  WorldCrafts: Building a Normal Life for Mauritius' Deaf(http://www.mymissionfulfilled.com/article.asp?id=644), WorldCrafts: Bringing Hope to Bangladesh (http://www.mymissionfulfilled.com/article.asp?id=802), and Weaving a Salvation Story (http://www.mymissionfulfilled.com/article.asp?id=918).

We had a Christmas in August World Crafts party. We invited all the ladies, had catalogs available for all to see. We had three crafts available to do, based on some in catalog at the time, with revisions. We also had food from a couple of different countries. We also read an article from the Mosaic about the country, their finances and the trials the people were going through. The lesson was a definite eye-opener to many there.
The ladies loved the time to fellowship, and the ones that joined us in making the crafts were glad they did. Several mentioned that they didn't realize how fun it was to just sit and do something like that, others remembered how much fun they had when they did crafts years ago and wanted to start their hobby again. While we did have good sales, I believe it was the fellowship and the memories that were enjoyed the most.
